What was needed
A project of our own to test one idea: a film and series catalogue where Arabic and right-to-left are the starting point rather than a translation layer added at the end, finished to the standard people expect from the big viewing apps.
What we built
We built an app that pulls titles, posters, cast and trailers from TMDB in Arabic, falling back to English when an Arabic synopsis is missing, and arranges them into rows: trending, top 10 today, top rated and genres. It keeps each visitor’s watchlist, ratings, continue-watching position and For You picks. Playback is limited to official trailers on YouTube; the app never pulls streams from other sites. We built it in a week, and it isn’t public.
What’s in it
A fully Arabic right-to-left interface, with Arabic TMDB data and an English fallback for missing synopses.
A page for every title with cast, trailer and similar titles, plus pages for people and genres.
Instant catalogue search with a per-visitor request limit.
A watchlist, ratings, continue watching and For You picks for every visitor.
Series browsing by season and episode.
An admin for importing titles from TMDB, switching features on and off and reviewing an audit log.
